The European research platform IPANEMA dedicated to ancient materials was opened September 12, 2013 by Geneviève Fioraso, Minister of Higher Education and Research, and Jean-Paul Huchon, President of the Ile-de-France Region, with representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the CNRS and the SOLEIL synchrotron.
The new building of IPANEMA was handed over in August 2013. It hosts IPANEMA staff, laboratories and scientists on hosted projects since late 2013.
The PUMA beamline (Photons utilisés pour les matériaux anciens) is still under construction. It has received its first photons in November 2014. First users of PUMA will be able to work at the beamline starting 2017.
IPANEMA facilities were funded by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and by Region Ile-de-France.
IPANEMA is listed in the MERIL database of European research infrastructures.
