IPANEMA at the “Rayons X et Matière” 2025 Conference, Orléans.

The Centre–Val de Loire region will host the 16th edition of the Rayons X et Matière Conference from November 18 to 21, 2025, at the Orléans Conference Center, in the heart of the city of Joan of Arc.

This biennial French-speaking conference aims to bring together the entire community of researchers who use and develop X-ray instrumentation for the study of matter, covering a wide range of applications that address societal needs and challenges.

Clara HAIRIE will present the first results of a collaborative project with the Musée de l’Homme, focusing on the characterization of African glass beads, within the “Cultural and Industrial Heritage” category. This work was carried out as part of a second-year engineering internship conducted at IPANEMA by Jeanne Vinoy (Phelma, Grenoble INP) between May and September 2025, co-supervised by Laurent tranchant, in close collaboration with Manuel Valentin and Myriam Kourdourli (PALOC laboratory, Musée de l’Homme), Marie Godet (IRCP/C2RMF), and Mathieu Thoury.

Pierre Gueriau will also give a talk in the Imaging, Tomography session, focusing on synchrotron X-ray micro-tomography, which has become an essential tool for palaeontologists. Based on data collected on the ID19 beamline at the ESRF and on the PSICHE and PUMA beamlines at SOLEIL, he will show how the extraction of attenuation coefficients from the datasets can also provide 3D information on the chemical composition of fossils or organisms during their decomposition or burial processes.
